Abstract
Addressing the Holly Quran as “poem” and the Prophet as “poet” was one of the accusations that pagans propounded to deny the divinity of the Quran and the prophecy of the Prophet. Although there are different views on the meaning of “poetry” and “poems” in pagans’ language and two perspectives “structural dimension” and “dimension of fantastic content” have more advocates among commentators, examination of the culture and the beliefs existed in the age of the Prophet and analysis of the concept “poetry” at the time show that the accusation was propounded based on idea that the poet took inspiration from genies in order to introduce the Quran as the inspirations of genies and finally deny the Prophet. This analysis clarifies the sources and purposes of the pagans of the accusation and also replies to the accusation against the Quran and the Prophet.
